Hospital Corpsman First Class (HM1) Renardo Reid's journey as an enlisted Sailor since 2013 has been marked by a commitment to service and leadership. Currently stationed at Portsmouth Hospital for the past two years, HM1 Reid serves as an enlisted leader for the weekend shift, embodying a steadfast dedication to patient care. Originally from Kingston, Jamaica, Reid recalls his transition to the U.S. military, highlighting his experiences in boot camp in Chicago where the cold weather starkly contrasted his warm Caribbean upbringing.

 

Driven by aspirations of higher education and a career in medicine, HM1 Reid enlisted while pursuing his goal to become a doctor. Over the years, he has nurtured his personal life as a devoted father and family man, sharing joyful moments with his fiancé and their two-year-old daughter, Gaia, in the vibrant Hampton Roads community. Engaging in recreational activities such as park visits and swimming, the Reid family appreciates the area’s offerings, including upcoming events like the 9/11 Remembrance Run at Norfolk Naval Shipyard.

 

With a desire for greater camaraderie among military fathers, HM1 Reid advocates for a support group dedicated to Sailors who are dads, as well as a reading club for those who share his passion for literature. Encouraging newcomers to Portsmouth to explore the region, he emphasizes that the abundance of experiences available can enrich their military journey, challenging prevalent stigmas and inviting all to embrace the vitality of Hampton Roads living.
